چکیده

BACKGROUND Ezrin is a cytoskeletal protein that is involved in tumor growth and invasion. It has been suggested that Ezrin expression plays an important role in tumor metastasis. This study is aimed to investigate the clinicopathological significance of Ezrin overexpression in gastric adenocarcinomas. METHODS Ezrin protein expression was examined by immunohistochemistry in 26 normal gastric mucosa, 32 dysplasia, and 277 gastric adenocarcinomas. The relationship between Ezrin expression and the clinicopathological features of gastric cancers was analyzed. In addition, a gastric cancer cell line, MKN-1, was also used for immunofluorescence staining to evaluate the distribution of Ezrin protein. RESULTS Ezrin protein located in the cytoplasm and/or membrane in the migrating gastric cancer cells, and it mainly concentrated at the protrusion site; however, only cytoplasmic distribution was observed in the non-migrating cancer cells by immunofluorescence staining. The positive rate of Ezrin protein expression was significantly higher in gastric adenocarcinoma and dysplasia compared with that in the normal gastric mucosa. Moreover, expression frequency of Ezrin protein increased significantly in lymph node metastasis and late clinical stages. Consistently, strong expression of Ezrin was significantly correlated with poor prognosis of gastric cancer. CONCLUSION The detection of Ezrin expression can be used as the marker for early diagnosis and prognosis of gastric adenocarcinoma. Nuclear overexpression of the overexpressed in lung cancer 1 predicts worse prognosis in gastric adenocarcinoma

We have performed this retrospective study to elucidate whether elevated expression of the overexpressed in lung cancer 1 (OLC1) was related to the clinicopathological parameters and prognosis of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma. Additionally, different effects of various subcellular OLC1 expression on gastric adeno-carcinogenesis were focused on in our study. Both overall and subcellular e...

HER-2/neu Marker Examination using Immunohistochemical Method in Patients Suffering from Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Gastric adenocarcinoma is the second leading cause of death due to cancer in the world and in advanced stages the prognosis is poor with current therapies. Over-expression of HER-2/neu has been seen in several cancers such as gastric cancer and its expression is associated with poor prognosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the over-expression of HER-2/neu in gastric biopsy samples of pat...

5-Year Survival in Gastric Adenocarcinoma with Epithelial and Stromal Versican Expression

Background & Objective: Gastric cancer is the second most frequent cause of cancer death worldwide, despite differences in incidence around the world. The majority of gastric cancer cases concern gastric adenocarcinoma, which has a fairly high 5-year survival rate when coupled with early-stage diagnosis. Versican, a member of the aggregating chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans fa...

Association between HER-2/Neu overexpression in gastric adenocarcinoma and histopathologic features of tumor in gastrectomy samples: a cross-sectional study in Kerman, Iran

Background:In tumoral cells, the HER-2/Neu is an oncogene and overexpression would result in further membranous proteins. The role of this gene is known in ling and breast cancers. This study was undertaken to determine the HER-2/Neu overexpression in gastrectomy samples in patients with gastric cancer and its association with tumor histopathology prognostic factors. M...
